Freshman Joey Spallina earned both ACC Offensive Player of the Week and a spot on the USILA Division I Dynamic Team of the Week. He scored 10 total goals split between SU’s games against UAlbany and Holy Cross.

Syracuse men’s lacrosse remains undefeated to commence the young season after defeating both UAlbany and Holy Cross this past weekend.

The team scored a whopping 35 total goals in both outings, while only allowing 13, which is less goals than they scored in either game.

These impressive performances by the squad continue to prove critics wrong who didn’t believe in the team to start the year, and validate their supporters. However, their next opponent, No. 9 Maryland are the reigning national champions and are elite once again this season.

Women’s basketball suffers loss to Notre Dame

After defeating North Carolina this past week for their first victory against a ranked opponent during the Felisha Legette-Jack era, Syracuse women’s basketball blew another second half lead, losing to No. 10 Notre Dame 73-64.

Since January, the team has lost six games in which they’ve held a lead, and while they’ve scored at least 30 points in their last two third quarters, the team is averaging a measly 11 in the final frame.

Senior guard Dyaisha Fair continues to keep up her scoring tear, totaling 45 points in her two performances last week. Senior forward Dariauna Lewis continued her year-long rebounding tear, having double-doubles in both games.

Up next for the crew is a trip down to Tallahassee to face No. 24 Florida State Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Men’s hoops gets much needed win vs NC State

The past two years for Syracuse men’s basketball have been anything but ideal; however, the team’s 75-72 win over No. 23 NC State was a sweet one to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Senior center Jesse Edwards dominated in the win, totaling 18 points and 16 rebounds, including his first career 3-point attempt and make that extended their lead to five in the second half. Freshman guard Judah Mintz also had a solid game, tallying 20 points and nine assists, his most dishes in a contest since nearly a month ago.

Head coach Jim Boeheim and company remain undefeated this month, narrowly keeping their March Madness hopes alive. But, they’ll be tested on Saturday in an ESPN showdown against Duke at the JMA Wireless Dome in a contest that’s outcome will have severe implications for seeding in the ACC Tournament next month.

Meaghan Tyrrell earns Offensive Player of the Week twice

SU attacker Meaghan Tyrrell earned Offensive Player of the Week by the IWLCA and the ACC. She scored two goals and a career-high six assists in Syracuse’s season-opener win against Northwestern.

After losing to Northwestern 15-4 in the NCAA Quarterfinals last season, Syracuse women’s lacrosse got revenge to start the year, defeating them in a high scoring affair 16-15 at the JMA Wireless Dome.

While they were outscored 11-8 in the second half, a strong first half effort led them to a four point advantage into halftime.

Seven players scored multiple goals for the team including attacker Megan Carney, who had four.

Just like the men’s team, next up for the crew is a battle against Maryland, and while the women’s team didn’t win the championship last year, they did get to the Final Four.
