Joey Spallina spread out five goals over the course of SU lacrosse’s game against Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon.

The No. 1 freshman recruit accounted for one-third of the team’s goals in SU’s 15-6 win at the JMA Wireless Dome. This victory tallies Syracuse’s third straight win to start the 2023 season as well as a 3-0 record at home.

The Orange maintained a strong lead throughout the four quarters. After coming out of halftime up 9-2, SU kept the Crusaders scoreless through the third quarter while also adding five cushion points of their own.

SU freshman attackman Finn Thomson knocked in four goals for his first career hat trick with two assisted by Alex Simmons.

Holy Cross struggled to hold on to possession with 23 total turnovers. The Crusaders successfully cleared 15-for-22, but Syracuse was nearly perfect, clearing 27-of-28. SU simply executed better, which created a dominant game for the Orange.

Up next, SU head coach Gary Gait and team travel to the Maryland Terrapins’ turf Saturday at 1 p.m. The reigning national champions fell to unranked Loyola 12-7 Saturday, splitting their record 1-1.
