Sports SUmmary: women’s hoops loses in first round of ACC Tourney
Syracuse women’s basketball were decimated by N.C. State Thursday in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The second half continued to plague the SU team, being outscored 51-32 despite the fact four players scored in double-digits in the contest.
After a disappointing exit in the first round of the tourney, the team’s NCAA tournament chances lie in the hands of the selection committee.
As the end of the season may await the crew, they increased their win total from last year by seven games. Head coach Felisha Legette-Jack’s first year as head coach included many impressive victories and player success, including senior guard Dyaisha Fair being named to the All-ACC First Team and All-Defensive Team.
Syracuse women’s lacrosse continues to dominate
SU women’s lacrosse dominated University of Albany 22-5 Wednesday in the JMA Wireless Dome. The team is now 5-0 on the season.
Syracuse recorded just one game that they won by less than five goals, and have scored at least 16 goals in every match.
Graduate student attackers Meaghan Tyrell and Megan Carney combined for 14 total points.
Inside Lacrosse currently has the crew as the No. 2 school in the country, and with their strong performances continuing, it appears that they will be a mainstay this season as one of the nation’s best teams.
Next, they host Virginia Tech (1-3) on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Syracuse quarterback undergoes procedure
Syracuse starting quarterback Garrett Shrader underwent a successful surgery to his right arm that will cause him to miss spring practice.
Spring practice for the team starts Tuesday, March 21.
Shrader, a junior, helped Syracuse football have their first season going 6-0 since 1987 and helped lead them to a bowl game.
Syracuse men’s basketball struggles against Georgia Tech
SU men’s basketball’s defensive woes continued this past week, losing to Georgia Tech 96-76 on Tuesday. The team allowed 18 threes from the Yellow Jackets, a school high.
Head coach Jim Boeheim and company have now lost four in a row, and during that span they allowed opponents a horrible 15 threes made per game.
To end the regular season and to celebrate Senior Day, SU will face Wake Forest at the JMA Wireless Dome Saturday at 5 p.m.
Members of the 2003 NCAA Championship team will also be honored at the contest including Gerry McNamara and Hakim Warrick, who will both have their jerseys retired.
