The No. 2 Orange (5-0, 1-0 ACC) controlled possession on the way to a 22 to-five victory over the UAlbany Great Danes (2-3, 0-0 AE). Syracuse was able to dominate the draw control circle, winning the draw control battle 23 to five.

“Great lacrosse for us tonight; I think we really showed up and played hard throughout the whole game, a lot of great individual performances,” said Orange head coach Kayla Treanor. “We have a lot of respect for Albany and for Katie Rowan Thomson; she is an amazing coach and an amazing alumni. We respect her a lot, respect that team and the girls showed up today and played awesome.”

Syracuse got off to a blistering start again, with graduate attack Megan Carney scoring 66 seconds into the contest. The Orange would not slow down as they scored the most goals in a single quarter this season, with twelve in the first to lead twelve to one after the first period of play.

“It was awesome; everyone around me makes my job really easy when they’re able to get open, so it is just a team effort, just filling your role and knowing what to do and when to do it,” said junior attack Emma Ward. “I couldn’t have five assists unless the people I’m throwing the ball to finish their goals.”

The Orange would mellow out after the first only scoring ten more times and conceding four goals. SU beat their upstate New York rivals by a margin of seventeen goals.

“It’s awesome, all the girls have been echoing it, but we are trying to play really unselfish team ball, and they have made a commitment to it, and they believe in it, and they know it works,” said Treanor. “They talk about making that extra pass, that one more. They like to play that way which is so cool and so unique.”

Three people led the Orange offense as Carney, Ward, and graduate attack Meaghan Tyrell all tallied seven points on the day. Carney netted five goals on the day while Tyrell added three, and Ward put two in the back of the net.

“It is really just because of the way defenses have been playing her; regardless of the defense, she gets early slides, she gets face guards, she just gets a lot of attention from our opponents,” said Treanor of Tyrell. “She knows that because of that, she can be a facilitator of the offense and make other people look good.”

The Orange defense had another stellar performance as they held their opponents to five or fewer goals for their second consecutive game. Senior goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer saved six shots on eight opportunities for her third straight start with a save percentage above .625.

“Delaney is playing amazing for us,” said Treanor. “I think the coolest thing is to see her consistency over these five games. She really has not played badly for us. She has just played so well that I am incredibly proud of her. I am so impressed by her.”

The Orange are now off until Sunday at 11 a.m. when they continue ACC play against the Virginia Tech Hokies at the Dome.
