Syracuse senior quarterback Garrett Shrader was named both the ACC Quarterback of the Week and a Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 selection after his record-breaking performance in the Orange’s 35-20 win over Purdue.
Shrader rushed for 195 yards in a four-touchdown performance, the second-highest rushing total by a quarterback in school history. He now leads all FBS quarterbacks in rushing yards in a game for the season.
SU teammates sophomore running back LeQuint Allen and senior offensive lineman Christopher Bleich also took home ACC honors for their respective positions.
The team’s nine points per game allowed this season puts Dino Babers‘ 3-0 squad fourth in the entire nation in points allowed per contest, only behind Ohio State, Michigan and Georgia, all teams ranked in the top six by The Associated Press.

Another draw, then loss for SU soccer
In a hard-fought battle in Winston Salem, N.C., Syracuse men’s soccer tied with Wake Forest Saturday, 1-1. The squad scored a goal in the game’s first two minutes but then went scoreless the rest of the contest.
The Orange followed the performance up with a loss against Cornell. The Orange went up in the first half, but allowed two goals in the second.
Next up, head coach Ian McIntyre and company will host number 17th-ranked Pittsburgh on Friday in an ACC showdown.
SU alums impress in NFL
After coming off a season where he was fourth in the NFL in total tackles, Syracuse alum and Indianapolis Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin leads the NFL in total defensive tackles with 30.
Franklin’s 13 tackles this past week helped his squad win its first game of the season.
Fellow SU alum and Jaguars defensive back Andre Cisco garnered attention for his interception of reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes’ pass in the Chiefs’ 17-9 win on Sunday.
SU alum goes viral for Swiftie reference
Later in the Chiefs-Jaguars game, Syracuse alum and broadcaster Ian Eagle went viral after his call of a Travis Kelce touchdown.
When the star tight end found the endzone, the WAER Hall of Famer used his way with words to reference Taylor Swift’s popular song, “Blank Space,” whom Kelce is allegedly dating.
