There's nothing like a festive pumpkin patch outing to embrace autumn traditions.

With a drop in temperatures and Halloween just a few days away, it’s finally starting to feel like fall. Yet, seasonal activities and cuisines returned long before the fall season even began.

The excitement of pumpkin spice lattes may have died down since popular places like Starbucks and Dunkin’ began selling their pumpkin products at the end of August, but that does not mean that your seasonal pumpkin craze should end. New trends and local New York businesses are incorporating pumpkin into their products in new, unique ways, offering everyone a continuously exciting fall experience alongside the typical seasonal favorites.

Continue to embrace fall as the peak of the fall season arrives. Here are some unique pumpkin-filled activities, products and drinks you must try this month:

Not Your Typical Pumpkin Patch

At age 15, Evelyn Leubner’s father, Tim, started growing pumpkins on his dairy farm and selling them on the side of the road. Since then, his small roadside business has not stopped growing. Located in Marietta, Tim’s Pumpkin Patch is a 70-acre pumpkin and squash farm for the local community to enjoy pumpkin picking and weekend activities like a corn maze, hayrides, a petting zoo and a brew barn that serves beer and hard cider.

Tim, alongside his wife, Erica, Evelyn and two other daughters, Claudia and Josephine, run and maintain the pumpkin patch, which has reached its 35th year of operation this year.

“We just try to keep it really wholesome. We’re not like a commercial operation like when you come to the pumpkin patch, you’re gonna see all five of us working there,” said Evelyn.

For the first time this year, the Leubner’s opened the patch in July and began holding “Friday Nights at Tim’s,” including live music, bonfires, brew barn options like beer, cocktails and wine slushies, as well as activities like moonlit hayrides and the corn maze, Evelyn said.

A Pumpkin Head Photoshoot

Don’t just carve pumpkins to have them sit as decorations inside or outside your home. Instead, join the latest TikTok trend: a pumpkin head photoshoot.

The hashtag “#pumpkinheadphotoshoot” has 48.9 million views on TikTok while the hashtag “#pumpkinhead” is included in 228 thousand posts on Instagram.

It’s simple. Carve a pumpkin with your design of choice, cut a hole in the bottom to put on your head, and grab your camera and some friends. The trend is the perfect afternoon or evening activity with friends or family, giving you memorable, and most likely comical, images to keep for years to come.

Get Your Drink in a Pumpkin

That’s right. Crazy Daisies is offering delicious fall cocktails inside a baby pumpkin.

In the pumpkin, customers can either get a Honeycrisp Lemon Twist, including 1911 Honeycrisp vodka and fresh-squeezed lemonade, or a Cranberry Sage Lemonade, which combines fresh-squeezed cranberry lemonade, sage-infused simple syrup, and Lockhouse lemon vodka, said Maryrose Cioci, Crazy Daisies’ bar manager. She said each pumpkin drink contains two servings of the cocktail—a perfect option to share with friends.

Cioci explained that employees carve about 120 pumpkins every Thursday, washing them off inside and out and storing them until around the following Tuesday. This is the first year Crazy Daisies has grown pumpkins in their field, she said.

“We know from start to finish where this drink comes from and where it’s going, which is in our compost in our backyard,” Cioci said.

If the pumpkin drink is not for you, Crazy Daisies also offers a range of other pumpkin spice drinks. The Pumpkin Spice White Russian includes Salt City cold brew, bourbon cream, cinnamon, and their homemade pumpkin spice simple syrup. The syrup, which Cioci created alongside owner, Jennifer Cox, is also included in their Pumpkin Spice Mule and Pumpkin Spice Mimosa.

Crazy Daisies is a one-minute drive away from The Pumpkin Hollow, another local pumpkin farm, which makes for a perfect fall day trip.

Trendy Pumpkin Painting

Pumpkin painting is a traditional favorite for many, but switch things up this year but painting your pumpkin with a modern twist.

Whether you craft your pumpkin to resemble your cat or carve etchings into the pumpkin’s outer layers, your pumpkin painting designs can turn into a matching decoration in your living space, a gift for a friend, or just a way to pass the time with friends.

Write a message for passers-by, paint a beautiful scenic landscape, or go at your pumpkin with paint splattering techniques. Whatever you choose, make your pumpkin painting personal to you and have fun while doing so.

Pumpkins Aren’t Just for Eating

Immersing yourself in the pumpkin-craze does not mean interacting with physical pumpkins at all.
