The Caregiver

Tending to the needs of a person with cancer can foster psychological, mental and physical pain for those wanting to shoulder the burden of suffering with those they love.

In January 2020, Michele Miller was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Throughout what was already a difficult year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Jeff Miller had to juggle his responsibilities as a husband, father, farmer, lawyer and musician while also being a caretaker to his wife who was battling cancer.

Thankfully Michele, a mother of two daughters, is in remission, but the Miller’s story serves as an important reminder of the psychological, mental and physical pain that caregivers go through in order to shoulder burden of suffering with those they love.

Producer Note: I would like to acknowledge my own father, who acted as my mother’s caregiver during her own battle with ovarian cancer. I was only 12 years old at the time, but I remember my father as much as the hero as my mother was.
