Syracuse is one of three Atlantic Coast Conference teams to be ranked inside the preseason Top 5.

Throughout the season, the team will face the top four teams and nine of the teams in the Top 20. Their season begins on February 11 at the JMA Wireless Dome at 12 p.m. against No. 4 Northwestern, who knocked SU out of the NCAA tournament last year.

The Orange will also play Pittsburgh at Yankee Stadium in New York City on November 11 to commemorate the 100th football game played in the stadium. SU just recently played in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl on December 29, 2022 where they fell to Minnesota 28-20.

After an unexpected above .500 season, Dino Babers will look to have two straight winning seasons for the first time in his tenure as head coach of the SU team.

Syracuse women’s hoops splits homestand

Syracuse women’s basketball went 1-1 on their brief homestand this past week. They convincingly beat Virginia on Thursday 90-72 due to a historic performance by ACC player of the week Dyaisha Fair, who tied a school record for most threes made in a game with eight, but then SU lost to Louisville three days later after being outscored 45-31 in the second half.

With 80% of their next five games being against ranked opponents, the team is about to endure their most difficult stretch of the year with an opportunity to show the selection committee why they should return to the big dance after a one year hiatus.

You can see SU head coach Felisha Legette-Jack and Syracuse women’s basketball play next on Thursday against No. 13 Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.

Men’s basketball blows another fourth quarter lead

While many in the Syracuse basketball community remained optimistic about their tournament chances after their gut-wrenching loss to North Carolina last Tuesday, a loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday and Virginia at home on Monday have made it a serious uphill battle for the Orange if they want to get back into the big dance.

The team blew another second half lead on Monday after leading 51-46 with a little over 12 minutes left, Joseph Girard III and company were only able to muster up 11 more points the rest of the game, falling to Virginia 67-61. The loss marked their tenth of the season and their third straight.

In their last five games, the team has only won once and has blown a staggering three second half leads.

SU head coach Jim Boeheim and company don’t have another home game until February 14, and while they may pick up their victories in their two game road trip against the struggling Boston College and Florida State, they may have to rely on a magical ACC tournament run if they want to have a chance to be this year’s Cinderella Story.
