Syracuse men’s and women’s basketball kicked off their seasons on the right note Monday at the JMA Wireless Dome. Felisha Legette-Jack’s tenure as the women’s head coach could not have started off better, defeating Stony Brook 79-56.

It was a collective effort for the women’s win. Four of five starters scored in double digits, which outscored the entire Seawolves team. Graduate student Dariauna Lewis had an especially impressive game, totaling 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Orange women’s basketball will look to pick up another win on Thursday when they face fellow upstate New York university Colgate at 7 p.m.

Men’s basketball also started off their regular season right, defeating Lehigh 90-72. It was head coach Jim Boeheim’s 1100th career win as the Orange head coach.

Senior guard Joseph Girard III had a strong outing, making four of his six three-point attempts and scoring 19 points. Senior center Jesse Edwards also contributed in big time fashion, scoring efficiently and rebounding like he was last year before his wrist injury.

Men’s basketball will look to paste another victory to their total next Tuesday against Colgate at 7 p.m.

Syracuse football disappoints again

Syracuse football dropped another game this past weekend, losing to the Pittsburgh Panthers 19-9. The Orange extended their losing streak to three games and dropped out of the AP Top 25 rankings for the first time since week five.

While the defense only allowed 17 points, nothing could go right for the Orange offense.

With starting quarterback Garrett Shrader still out, the Orange offense continued to struggle. Saturday was the first time this year head coach Dino Babers‘ team didn’t manufacture a single touchdown. Star running back Sean Tucker had another poor outing, rushing for only 19 yards on 10 attempts.

While the Orange will continue to be careful with managing Shrader’s injury, they look to create a more effective offensive game plan for Saturday’s matchup against No. 25 Florida State who has allowed only 9.5 points per game in their last two matchups.

Saturday’s matchup at 8 p.m. will be the team’s last home game of the year.

Men’s Soccer Looks to Reach The ACC Championship

After defeating North Carolina on Sunday, No. 4 Syracuse men’s soccer hosts No. 3 Virginia today at 5:00 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. A win would advance the Orange to the ACC Championship where they will play No. 7 Clemson or No. 25 Wake Forest

Former Syracuse basketball star hits impressive buzzer beater

It has been an impressive start for the Portland Trail Blazers this year, defying many experts’ expectations while they sit at 7-3 and tied for the second best record in the Western Conference.

A major part of Portland’s hot start to the year is former Syracuse basketball player Jerami Grant who is shooting his best career percentage (43.5%) from three.

Last Friday, with the team’s two leading scorers out, Grant stepped up and scored his season high of 30 points and hitting an impressive buzzer against the Phoenix Suns.
