SU field hockey sweeps weekend games at home
SU field hockey bounces back with two home wins
After getting shutout by Ohio State earlier in the week, Syracuse secures two wins over unranked opponents.

Hungry for a win after dropping to No. 14 in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll, Syracuse field hockey bounced back with a pair of wins over the weekend.
On Friday afternoon, the Orange pulled out the 2-0 victory over Northeastern at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The win came after a tough 5-0 loss to Ohio State and gave the Orange much-needed momentum.
The Orange delivered a high-energy performance on both sides of the ball, dominating possession and maintaining control for nearly the entire match. Sophomore forward Hattie Madden acknowledged the teamâs determination to recover after their recent defeat.
âWe knew Ohio State wasnât Syracuse hockey. Thatâs not how we play, and thatâs not how we want to play in the future,â Madden said. âWe really took it to heart. We were hungry, and we wanted to do better, and we still are going to do better.â
Syracuse started strong, immediately putting pressure on Northeastern. In the first five minutes, the Orange earned four penalty corners and took six shots, a big contrast to their zero corners and zero shots in the first quarter of the loss to Ohio State. Despite the offensive push, the first quarter ended scoreless.

Syracuse maintained its offensive dominance in the second quarter. Senior forward Vivian Rowan broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, scoring off a Huskies corner kick that was cleared and intercepted by Rowan. She capitalized on the opportunity with a breakaway goal, marking her second of the season.
âVivi has really stepped it up,â said head coach Lynn Farquhar. âThe interception, the work rate she’s doing, she’s being intentional. She went all after it, and that’s what we want to see.â
The Orange maintained their momentum in the third quarter despite green cards being issued to both teams and Northeastern receiving several yellow cards for their physical play. Syracuse capitalized in the 42nd minute when Madden tipped in a shot off a Bo van Kempen assist, extending the lead to 2-0. The goal marked Maddenâs first of the season.

âTwenty-one shots is impressive, but thereâs only two goals, so we want to keep working on that and hopefully get more on the board,â Madden said.
Syracuse continued to apply pressure in the final quarter, earning several penalty corners but unable to extend the lead. The Orange defense held Northeastern to just one shot on goal all game.
The game was notable not only for the victory but also for the halftime ceremony, during which the stadium honored military veterans with a special appreciation event. Fans received camo bucket hats as part of the celebration.
SU improves win streak to two
A defensive battle at J.S. Coyne Stadium Saturday afternoon ended in nail biting fashion.
No. 14 ranked SU scored a last minute goal in the final period versus a Lafayette University team who came into the game with one loss.

Lafayette on paper dominated this game, receiving a 16-5 advantage in penalty corners with seven coming in the fourth period.
Syracuse had two of five corners in the game during the final minutes of play and in the 59th minute Kempen converted on goal in a last desperate attempt. This goal would be Kempenâs fourth of the season. Syracuse’s first goal came off a penalty shot from substitute Bo Madden, making the goal her first of the season.
The Orange improve their record to 4-1. Next up, the Orange begin their four game road streak against North Carolina Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.
