Women’s Tennis starts season on high note

The Syracuse Women’s Tennis team now sits at 3-0 on the season after a 5-2 win at home against Cornell on Sunday afternoon. After losing two out of three on the doubles side to start the game, Cornell headed into the singles portion of the dual up 1-0. SU turned it on with four two-set sweeps in the singles matches from Guzal Yusupova, Miranda Ramirez, Zeynep Erman, and Kim Hansen. This home victory came on the heels of two victories in Richmond, Virginia last weekend. They defeated Richmond by a score of 6-1 and defeated VCU by a score of 5-2. Their next eight duels will be at home, starting with one against Boston University on Sunday at 11 a.m. All home matches are played at Drumlins Country Club. Admission is free.

Men’s Basketball picks up huge win; tough tests loom

The SU men’s basketball extended their winning streak to five games with a 69-61 victory against the Pitt Panthers at home on Saturday afternoon. They will head to Clemson on Tuesday before heading back to the Carrier Dome for a Saturday prime time showdown against the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils. Syracuse currently sits at 6-3 in ACC play, 2 games behind conference leader Louisville. Duke is at 6-2 with Clemson at 4-5. The last time these two teams met at the Dome, SU set an on-campus attendance record for a single college basketball game with 35,642 fans attending.

Alton Robinson shows potential NFL talent

Former SU Defensive End Alton Robinson had an impressive week at the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. He had 2 sacks in the game, including one against former Alabama and Oklahoma star Jalen Hurts. According to The Draft Network, he is the 111th rated player heading into the draft. He finished his Syracuse career in the fall with 115 total tackles and 32 tackles for loss. He also forced five fumbles. Experts are saying that he could go as high as the late first round in April’s NFL Draft. If he does, he will be the first SU player drafted in the first round since Justin Pugh in 2013.
