There’s nothing like a win to open the season, and the Syracuse women’s soccer team is off and running.

The Orange (1-0-0) started off their 2022 campaign with a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire (0-1-0) on Thursday night at SU Soccer Stadium.

Florence Vaillancourt and Erin Flurey provided Syracuse with one goal apiece, while Alivia Kelly buried the Wildcats’ lone tally.

Michaela Walsh anchored the Orange with four saves in net and helped fend off New Hampshire’s late push.

Kelly cut the Wildcats’ deficit in half at the 64:04 mark from an assist by Emily Bini.

That’s as close as New Hampshire could get, however, as Syracuse shut the door.

The win was a nice start for the Orange who are coming off a 4-12-1 campaign a season ago.

Syracuse generated momentum early thanks to Flurey finding the back of the net just 2:13 into regulation.

The second half saw much of the same early success when Florence notched the game-winner 6:18 after the halftime break with an assist from Chelsea Domond.

The Orange kept New Hampshire’s Cat Sheppard busy in goal as the visiting keeper made eight saves.

With Nicky Thrasher Adams at the helm of Syracuse for her fourth season, the Orange will look to keep rolling during their early four-match homestand.

Next up for Syracuse is Connecticut who visits the Orange for a 1 p.m. Sunday matinee back at SU Soccer Stadium.
