There were plenty of goals at the SU soccer stadium on Thursday night as the Syracuse women’s soccer team lost 6-3 to No. 23 North Carolina State. Syracuse entered this game having not scored in ACC play but was able to break that streak. However, it wasn’t enough for a victory as the Orange defense couldn’t stop the Wolfpack from scoring.

Syracuse got on the board first with a rare corner kick goal from Sydney Brackett in the first two minutes of the game. The goal fired up the Wolfpack, as they responded with four unanswered goals.

NC State forward Maxine Blackwood had a career night scoring a hat trick with assists from Tziarra King and Ricci Walking. King, NC State’s leading scorer on the season, used her lightning speed and footwork to push a goal past Syracuse goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx with about 20 minutes left in the half. At the half, it was 2-1 NC State.

The Wolfpack started the second half strong, scoring twice in the first five minutes via Kia Rankin and Blackwood’s third goal. It didn’t take SU long to respond as freshman Meghan Root scored her first goal of the season off a rebounded shot. Less than a minute later, NC State’s Kursten von Klahr scored on a counter attack, burying the ball in the right corner eliminating all chances of Syracuse goalie Jordan Harris making a save. Orange midfielder Stephanie deLaforcade added the final score in the nine-goal game with a beautiful shot right inside the box in the 74th minute.

The Orange remain winless in conference play but scored three impressive goals against a top 25 opponent in North Carolina State. Next Syracuse faces No. 3 UNC at home on Sunday at 1 p.m.
