The Syracuse men’s soccer team only needed one goal to win their program’s 500th career victory and top in-state rival Colgate in Hamilton on Tuesday. That goal came in the second minute when senior Massimo Ferrin tallied his third goal of the year to lift the Orange to a 1-0 victory.

The SU soccer team was coming off of a tough 1-0 road loss to top-ranked ACC rival Wake Forest when they rode the buses south to face the 1-2-4 Colgate Raiders.

Syracuse dominated the first half, outshooting the Raiders 8-2 and out-gaining them on corners 5-0. But the Orange were unable to extend their lead, sitting on a score of 1-0 as the buzzer sounded for halftime.

The Raiders began to show signs of life in the second half as they matched the Orange in shots 5-5 and corners 2-2 but still were unable to find the back of the net as the Orange picked up their first road victory of the season.

Sophomore Christian Miesch was the winning goalkeeper, stopping all three Colgate shots. Miesch picks up his second win and second shutout this fall with the victory.

With the loss, Colgate falls to 1-3-4 on the year and the Orange improve to 3-2-3 as they welcome ACC foe Pittsburgh to the SU soccer stadium on Friday night.
