The Orange were outshot 14-5 in the opening frame, but Syracuse shined on special teams. Cuse went on the penalty kill after Tatum White was sent to the box for hooking with 6:49 gone by in the first frame. Syracuse was successful on the PK, and the team’s best penalty killer was their goaltender, Allie Kelley.

The Orange went on the power play after Engineers forward Nyah Phillip was assessed a two-minute minor for tripping.

Sophomore Jackson Kinsler made Rensselaer pay, scoring a power-play goal with 16:04 in the first period. Kinsler beat RPI goaltender Maelee Ambrass’s glove side off a perfectly executed toe-drag release shot.

The Orange started the 2nd period on the penalty kill after Sophomore Nea Tervonen was sent to the box for boarding in the final minute of the period. Syracuse successfully killed off the two-minute minor but was unable to capitalize on a power play of their own after RPI forward Nina Cristoff was called for roughing.
