National Signing Day studio show details 2019 football commits

A small number of Syracuse fans, almost all of whom were clad in some sort of Orange gear, made their way to the National Signing Day Studio Show at Manley Field House. Here, Orange play-by-play announcer Matt Park and analyst Michael McAllister detailed the football signees who will be calling Syracuse home in 2019.

The outcome of the 2018 college football season was not one that many Syracuse fans had expected for their favorite program. Each of the prior four seasons saw more than half of their games end up in the loss column.

Finally, Head Coach Dino Babers was able to turn things around and led Syracuse to an impressive 10-win season. In his third year, he was finally able to populate his team with 21 new guys he felt would help bring a winning culture to Central New York.

Following a breakdown of the four most recent high school players signed with Syracuse, the crowd in attendance first saw an interview with the Orange head coach, led by Park.

Babers discussed how important this past season was in order to continually land highly-rated recruits who he believes will help the team to continue winning. This includes being an attractive team to players looking to transfer to a stronger program, such as Darius Tisdale, who will be making his way to Syracuse after a pit stop in Pennsylvania at a junior college.

Coach Babers also made a point of saying that he is looking for guys who are worthy of starting right now, especially when injuries strike and transfers out of the program threaten a seemingly healthy level of depth at any given position. After hearing this, it is not surprising that he and his assistant coaches have recruited a number of players who they describe as being able to play multiple positions, including Cornelius Nunn.

In a prerecorded video, assistant coach Nick Monroe said of Nunn, a safety, that “he’s an all-around ball player,” explaining that he possesses terrific ball skills for a defensive player. He even added that he is probably skilled enough to play on the other side of the ball as well.

Star freshman Andre Cisco also made a live appearance and gave some insight into what his experience as a recruit was last year. He praised the staff and explained that Babers himself was a huge draw to Syracuse.

When Park brought in Director of Athletics John Wildhack after his interview with Cisco, he made it clear that he and everyone responsible for hiring the coaching staff were very much in agreement that they should try to keep Babers in Syracuse if possible. If not because he knows how to win, then because talented players respect him and will continue to flock to the Dome as long as he is there.

Among the list of new recruits is Cooper Dawson, who made national headlines in December when he chose to have his close friend Kingsley Feinman announce which school he was going attend. Feinman, who has cerebral palsy and is paraplegic, helped Dawson overcome a torn ACL during his senior season.

After attending the National Signing Day Studio Show, it is evident that the Syracuse football coaching staff is more than pleased with all 21 of the signees that will be wearing Orange next season and has high hopes for what next year will bring.
