For the second straight season, Syracuse women’s basketball graduate guard Dyaisha Fair was named a member of the preseason watch list for the 2024 Nancy Lieberman Award.

The award recognizes the top point guards in women’s Division One basketball. Candidates must display strong leadership on the court, exemplary ball-handling and proficient play-making.

The 5’5″ guard was dominant last year in her first season with the Orange, averaging 19.9 points, 4.2 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Fair had a few impressive scoring outings last season including her 36-point masterpiece that saw her make a whopping eight-threes.

Fair is currently second in all women’s college basketball scoring for active players, only behind last year’s Lieberman award winner, Caitlin Clark.

Field hockey suffers heartbreak in double overtime defeat

No.13 Syracuse field hockey suffered a demoralizing 2-1 defeat in double overtime against No.18 Cornell.

The game was scoreless for the first 39 minutes until Cornell sophomore midfielder Rease Coleman knocked in the first goal of the game on a penalty corner shot.

Some 13 minutes later, the Orange scored a goal thanks to freshman forward Hattie Madden’s slapshot as rain poured down in Ithaca.

Cornell would knock in a game-winner in double-overtime, exacting revenge for their loss to the Orange last month.

For the rest of the regular season, Syracuse will only play ACC opponents starting with No. 5 Louisville on Friday at 6 p.m.
