On Tuesday, the Syracuse Men’s and Women’s Rugby Teams took to the Barnes Center basketball courts for CNY Adaptive’s Wheelchair Rugby event. In celebration of Disability Pride Month, CNY Adaptive held events throughout the month, such as wheelchair basketball. Players from both the club rugby teams and CNY Adaptive played on teams together.

Each team had five players on the court using wheelchairs customized for sports while they used a volleyball instead of a traditional rugby ball. The event may have been for fun, but competition was fierce from the start. Newhouse Professor Seth Gitner, a member of the CNY Flyers Sled Hockey Team and CNY Adaptive, helped to organize the event, and even showed off his wheelchair rugby skills towards the end.

The support CNY Adaptive has received from clinics like this one has provided them with opportunities to connect with students and the community through America’s favorite pastime – sports.
