Buddy placed on Naismith watch list

Senior guard Buddy Boeheim was placed on the 2022 Naismith Trophy Watch List.

Boeheim is SU’s leading returning scorer from last season and has more than 1,000 career points. He is also on the watch lists for the 2022 NABC Division I Player of the Year and the 2022 Jerry West Shooting Guard Award.

Boeheim and the Orange men’s basketball team begin their regular season on Tuesday hosting Lafayette at the Dome.

Field hockey makes NCAA Tournament; has two ACC tourney honorees

The Orange field hockey team made its 15th NCAA tournament during Sunday’s selection show.

Syracuse will take on Penn State on Friday, Nov. 12. The game will take place at the University of Maryland’s campus due to scheduling conflicts at Penn State.

Carolin Hoffmann and Eefke van den Nieuwenhof made the ACC All-Tournament Team following their strong performances during Syracuse’s ACC semifinals run.

Hoffmann played a key defensive role in SU’s 5-1 quarterfinal win over Duke. Van den Nieuwenhof led the Orange with three goals and an assist in games vs. Duke and North Carolina.

Chestnut nominated for freshman award

Defensive back Duce Chestnut was named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year watch list.

Chestnut has started all nine games for the Orange this season, pacing the defense with 36 tackles, two interceptions, two sacks and five pass breakups.

Orange ice hockey teammates win CHA awards

Graduate defenseman Jessica DiGirolamo won the College Hockey America Defenseman of the Week award for the third time this season. DiGirolamo scored two goals and assisted on two others in two wins against the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Freshman forward Sarah Marchand earned CHA Rookie of the Week honors after scoring the game-winning overtime goal in Friday’s 3-2 win over RIT. Overall, Marchand had two goals and one assist in the two games against the Tigers.

Former All-American Paul named to ACC honors class

Markus Paul, a star safety for Syracuse’s undefeated 1987 team, was selected to the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference Football Honors class.

Paul was a four-year starter for the Orange and holds the school record for interceptions with 19. He was a 1988 All-American and two-time Jim Thorpe Award finalist for the nation’s best college defensive back.

Paul passed away last November at 54 years old while serving as the Dallas Cowboys strength and conditioning coach.

Carmelo off to a hot start with the Lakers

Orange basketball legend Carmelo Anthony is still producing in his 19th NBA season.

Anthony scored a season-high 29 points in the Los Angeles Lakers 126-123 overtime victory vs. the Charlotte Hornets, including a scorching 7-10 made three-pointers.

He is currently third in the league in made three-pointers and is averaging 17.6 points per game. Anthony has taken on an increased role in L.A. since LeBron James went down with an abdominal injury last week.
