By Sunday, Syracuse Police announced that a 15-year-old boy had turned himself in Saturday night and claimed responsibility for Lynch’s shooting, according to Syracuse.com

SU Department of Public Safety issued a campus wide email alert around 8:30 p.m. Friday after reports of gunshots ringing at 901 Madison St., and urging community members to stay clear of the area.

DPS’ follow-up email at 9:55 p.m. confirmed there was no active threat to the campus community and that Syracuse Police would be handling the shooting investigation.

The scene around Madison Street was filled with police and rescue respondents throughout the night. At one point, helicopters were reportedly being used to help police locate a suspect Friday night before he turned himself in.

Following Saturday’s arrest of the 15-year-old suspect, Syracuse police said the teen would be charged with second-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon. He was being held at Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center.
