What Syracuse is Wearing This March
Discover the countless ways Syracuse University students are shaping trends so you can stay ahead of what’s about to take over.

This month, we’re back and diving into the exciting trends set to dominate the campus scene come April—bold and unapologetic styles featuring leather, denim, crochet, and prints. As expected, Syracuse students are showcasing their looks everywhere, from the Schine Student Center to Bowne Hall.
While Syracuse’s chilly weather persists — with snow falling just days after temperatures hit 73 degrees — closets are in seasonal whiplash. Still, students are warming up their wardrobes with standout pieces that effortlessly blend style, comfort, and function.
As we move into the spring, it’s all about statement-making outerwear, daring textures, and bold prints that are sure to turn heads.

Leather, especially leather jackets, is making a major comeback. The classic moto jacket is once again a go-to piece for spring, but this season, it’s getting updated with new silhouettes, intricate details, and unexpected colors.
A few years ago, we saw a rise in Formula 1, Yamaha, and NASCAR jackets from the early 2000sNow, weathered leather looks are taking over — the kind that feel like a biker personally handed it down to you! More into that for April’s Fashion Forecast, but for now, it’s safe to say Harley-Davidson styles from the 1998-2005 era are owning the Syracuse University runway.
Leather jackets are being paired with everything from casual tees and plaid trousers to oversized sweaters, making them an ideal layering piece for fluctuating spring temperatures. Whether you’re rocking a sleek black leather jacket with silver zippers or opting for a more statement-making piece in deep burgundy or vibrant green, this trend adds a tough, subversive edge to any outfit.

While leather jackets are dominating outerwear, the trend doesn’t stop there. Denim continues to rise in popularity, but for April, it’s all about pairing classic denim with unexpected textures, or even going full “Canadian tuxedo.” Lately, denim, especially moto jackets, is being styled with cozy knits, soft crochet, and bold prints for a curated, layered look that feels both fresh and fashion-forward.
Corporate-inspired knitwear, especially off-the-shoulder styles, and parachute skirts are also emerging as major trends for spring. These high-waisted, voluminous skirts, often made of lightweight, windbreaker-like fabric, are making their mark in a major way. With their oversized silhouette and cinched waist, parachute skirts offer an effortless, almost utilitarian vibe while keeping things chic.
This trend is often styled with cropped jackets, slouchy sweaters, tanks, and bold accessories. Whether in a neutral tone or vibrant color, parachute skirts are the perfect transition piece for early spring, offering both comfort and edge.

Prints are making their way into the Syracuse fashion scene as we head into April. Plaid trousers are making a strong return, offering structure and pattern in a season that’s all about experimentation. Whether in classic checks or vibrant, eye-catching colors, plaid pants are a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down.
Paired with a leather jacket, plaid trousers offer an elevated take on a relaxed look. Add a crochet piece or a colorful knit sweater, and the outfit gains a playful, creative flair.

As for knitwear and crochet, these lightweight textures are a go-to for layering during the transitional spring months. Think oversized knit sweaters, slouchy cardigans, and delicate crochet tops that add a soft, handmade touch to any outfit. These pieces are perfect for balancing out more structured leather or plaid staples, creating an effortlessly chic ensemble.

As April approaches, Syracuse students are gearing up to embrace an eclectic blend of leather jackets, denim, parachute skirts, plaid, and crochet. The layering game is in full swing as fashion-forward students mix 2010s nostalgia, utilitarian influence, and handmade pieces to create personal, expressive looks.
From sleek moto jackets to voluminous skirts and eye-catching prints, it’s clear that spring 2025 will be all about blending textures, experimenting with style, and, above all, making bold fashion statements. Stay tuned to see how these trends evolve on campus — there’s no shortage of creativity and innovation in how students are showcasing their style.
