The Goldstein Auditorium transforms from a gathering space to a land of knights, princesses and creatures Sunday for the Fashion and Design Society’s Fall 2024 show.

The Fall 2024 semester fashion show, presented by Syracuse University’s Fashion and Design Society (FADS) was a resounding success, showcasing the incredible talent and creativity of students from diverse academic backgrounds.

The Sunday night event in Goldstein Auditorium was a testament to the organization’s commitment to fostering a vibrant fashion community on campus.

The show’s theme, “Mythical Medieval Realm,” inspired the designers to create a stunning array of garments that blended modern and classical elements.

Communications design major Julianna McDonald walked the runway in a satin teal gown with iridescent draping and jewel applique, feeling “very regal” in the ensemble.

The diverse range of participants was a highlight of the event. As one attendee and past-participant, Max Dickman, noted, “The creativity is unreal. The talent is unreal. And seeing people who aren’t even fashion design majors just come and do this for fun, people get to fulfill their dreams of fashion design.”

According to FADS designer and model Haiden Nourse, the organization’s process involves finding a theme at the beginning of each semester, followed by themed photoshoots and the eventual runway show. For the medieval-inspired theme, Nourse, a creative writing major, created two looks, one featuring a painted corset that mimicked the intricate details of Renaissance jewelry.

The event’s student-led nature was evident throughout, from the designers and models to the stage crew and live DJ. The FADS community is open to all students, regardless of their academic focus, allowing them to explore their passion for fashion design.

The large turnout for the show underscored the growing interest in fashion and design among the SU community. FADS, which describes itself as a “diverse group of career-minded individuals” with a shared passion for creativity, design, and fashion, has clearly struck a chord with students.

The organization’s mission of providing “real-time experience in fields that are potential career avenues” for its members was evident in the high-quality production and the level of professionalism on display. As Nourse explained, the themes are carefully chosen to allow designers the freedom to interpret them in their own unique way, resulting in a diverse and visually stunning showcase.

Overall, the Fall 2024 Fashion Show organized by FADS was a remarkable event that celebrated the talent, creativity and passion of SU students. The event not only provided a platform for aspiring fashion designers to showcase their work but also fostered a vibrant and inclusive community of fashion enthusiasts on campus.
