A day at the Ithaca Farmers Market
Head to this open-air market that offers a variety of crafts and cuisine from Dim Sum to homemade baked goods.

If you enjoy cuisine ranging from dumplings to vegan baked goods to Levantine cuisine like vegetable tagine and stuffed zucchini in addition to supporting small, local businesses, it is crucial that you visit the Ithaca Farmers Market. Earlier this semester, I had the opportunity to pay a visit to this farmerās market, and I was definitely not disappointed. With various food stands, it certainly was a sight to behold. Additionally, I also came across landscape paintings, customized pottery and gorgeous fresh-flower bouquets and wreaths.
What Youāll Find
As I strolled around, hopping from tent to tent, I was met by the happy smiles of local farmers, craftsmen and business owners eager to offer their goods and stories. This energetic, locally organized festival has been an Ithaca staple for many years, attracting both residents and visitors. The market was humming with activity on this particular day, and the air was fragrant with the delicious scent of fresh flowers and baked goods.
The Ithaca Farmers Market is a weekend market off the water in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. The market initially opened only on Saturdays in 1973 and provided a space for local producers and food vendors to sell their products. It was built entirely by volunteers. Over the years, the market has only gained customers, attracting more than 5,000 people daily. The Ithaca Farmers Market began as an innovative way for vendors to sell/produce, art and baked goods, and is now considered an Ithaca tradition.
Special Discoveries
My personal favorite treat of the day came from Dennisā Homemade Ice Cream stand: a sweet, chocolate ice cream cone. The ice cream was delightful and the best way to cool me down on a hot September day.
āIn Ithaca, down on the lake, it’s just a great place and a great atmosphere to work in,ā owner Dennis Caso said.
