Sir Paul McCartney announces return to Syracuse
Paul McCartney announces Syracuse concert
Get back, because Sir Paul McCartney is coming to Syracuse. Not to downtown or St. Joseph’s Amphitheater, but to the one and only Carrier Dome. The 79-year-old icon plays June 4, at 8 p.m., as part of the 2022 “Got Back” tour dates that were announced Friday morning.
This isn’t the first time McCartney has visited the Salt City. He was the focus of SU’s McCartney Madness in September 2017, a music festival organized by Dreya Cherry – a student in the music industry program-which took place on the Quad. The NewsHouse covered the event, reporting on the “3 hours of memorable visuals, incredible sound quality, and long-loved songs.”
The music legend, who was 75 at the time, delivered to the crowd of nearly 35,000 despite the heat of the day. He made the day even hotter with blasting flames during his classic 007 song “Live and Let Die”, according to The NewsHouse. His on-stage energy sustained for the almost 40 song set, including “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Hey Jude” and “Maybe I’m Amazed.”
“You could see in the people smiles of the crowd. The heat, the wait, and the trip, quite long for many, were absolutely worth it. McCartney’s show is sure to live forever in the memory of those lucky enough to be part of this historic night,” wrote NewsHouse reporters Katherine Reahl and Isabel Cristina Sanchez Chirinos.
McCartney’s return to the Carrier Dome will no doubt be met by the same smiles and excitement that filled it on that warm September night in 2017.
Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.
