Rappers Freddie Gibbs and Pink Siifu to perform at Bandersnatch 2022
Headliner Freddie Gibbs will electrify the crowd at 2022’s Bandersnatch, organized by SU’s University Union. Pink Siifu, also a rapper, singer and producer, will open the event. The Goldstein Auditorium hosts the Feb. 4 concert at 8 pm. The doors open at 7:45.
Gibbs, a highly accomplished and Grammy-nominated rapper, began his career in 2004. Now his discography features over 20 mixtapes, four albums and eight EPs. His 2020 album “Alfredo” reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart. He also just released the deluxe edition of his 2014 album “Piñata,” in which he collaborated with the artist Madlib. Gibbs’s other collaborations include Pusha T, Anderson .Paak, Gucci Mane, A$AP Ferg, Young Thug and more. Born and raised in Gary, Indiana, Gibbs now adds “actor” to his resume, starring in Down with the King, a film which premiered at Cannes in 2021.
Pink Siifu, whose given name is Livingston Matthews, grew up in music. His Birmingham, Alabama childhood influenced the sound on his new album “GUMBO’!,” a sound which echoes the “trunk-rattling bass and downtempo Southern rap that Atlanta’s Dungeon Family crafted in the 1990s,” wrote Marcus J. Moore in a New York Times article about the rapper. Pink Siifu began his career in 2012 and continues to create genre-stretching music including soul, punk, jazz, rap and experimental.
Bandersnatch tickets-$5 for SU and SUNY-ESF students and $10 for faculty and staff- are on sale at the student box office. Masks and all COVID-19 policies are required for attendance.
