SU students enjoy the last few days of warm weather
The weather is nice ... for now
After over a year of pandemic stress and virtual schooling, Syracuse University students can finally do what they love most: play outside! Bouncy houses, slip-n-slides, makeshift DJ booths, and more have appeared on campus throughout the first few weeks of the semester, and students couldn’t be happier. While the warm weather pays campus a brief visit, students and faculty alike are doing the most to celebrate in-person activities and the last rays of the summer sun.
Everyone familiar with the area can attest to the fleetingness of warm weather in Syracuse. Students and faculty alike are attuned to this ephemerality and are making the most of the beautiful weather being graced to the campus over the past week.
The school’s vaccination and mask mandates have meant that students can feel a bit more comfortable being around one another, and, in combination with the sunny dispositions caused by the extra vitamin D, the Quad-goers are capitalizing on the warm weather and clear skies.
Students park on benches, the steps of Hendricks Chapel, and blankets laid out in the grass to get work done and be together out in the fresh air. “Since there are about three weeks of nice weather during the school year in Syracuse, it almost pains me to stay inside during those days,” says Alex Battaglia, a newspaper and online journalism junior. On Tuesday, Sept.7, she, like many other students, had class outside.
While the pandemic has meant community members having to get a bit creative with how they can safely enjoy the campus, students have made the most of their ability to be outside and socially distanced. From a quick lunch break under a tree to entire classes held outdoors, SU is making every last bit of its sunny skies count.
