On Friday, October 22, members of the Syracuse University community gathered to commemorate the lives lost in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 in Lockerbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988. The tragedy, which occurred nearly 33 years ago, took the lives of 270 people, including 35 SU students. The Remembrance and Lockerbie Scholars were present at the ceremony, setting down roses to honor the memory of those lost.

Roses left at the Pan Am 103 memorial following Friday's Remembrance Week ceremony.
The ceremony capped off a week of events meant to memorialize the lives lost, while also educating people on the tragedy and its aftermath. The week included film screenings on the bombing, as well a historical exhibition on the incident through the lens of contemporary media, and a display of 35 empty seats on the Shaw Quadrangle to honor the 35 SU students who were on the flight. The ceremony was followed by a convocation at Hendricks Chapel to honor the Remembrance and Lockerbie Scholars.
