SU seniors prep for post-pandemic world
With the Class of 2022’s graduation just days away, seniors are preparing to embark on their next journey as post-graduates in a post-pandemic world.
Whether their futures lead them near or far from Syracuse, over the past two years at SU, graduates have adapted to the ever changing conditions of the pandemic. From fully remote learning in spring 2020, to hybrid class in fall of 2020, to moving fully in-person for the 2021-2022 academic year, students have been pushed academically, socially, mentally, physically and professionally.
For undergraduate seniors in particular, the pandemic nearly sliced their college experience in half. When COVID-19 hit in the spring semester of their sophomore year, students had been on campus for nearly two years, immersing themselves in their studies and extracurriculars and acclimating themselves into the University. This puts the class in a unique position, having known what college was like pre-COVID.
The latter half of seniors’ college career was certainly unexpected and unforeseen, however over two years into the pandemic, with society adapting and living with COVID-19, graduates will enter a new world, different from the one they foresaw when arriving on campus back in 2018.
As they prepare for upcoming graduation, seniors and graduates alike have the opportunity to reflect on their four years at SU: the good and the bad. The missed football and basketball games, concerts, in-person classes and internships, and more, all of which came back in their final two semesters on campus.
Fortunately, walking across the stage this weekend in a fully-in-person graduation for the first time since 2019, the Class of 2022 will have the chance to leave college with some sense of normalcy and tradition, a feat which seemed uncertain during the lost years of college during height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
