Jared Mandel is a S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications student and contributor to the 2011 News tracker blog.
He is also the News Director at the nations oldest and largest, entirely student run television station – CitrusTV. At CitrusTV, Jared is responsible for overseeing the news department which consists of a staff of almost one-hundred students, and eight live news broadcasts per week. He is responsible for decisions including casting, content, and show structure. He also manages all department members.
During his time at CitrusTV Jared also worked as the Executive Producer of SA Today.
Moreover, he worked for CitrusTV News Live at 6 as an anchor, reporter, news brief anchor, and Weather Anchor. During Jared’s first year as a reporter and weather anchor at CitrusTV he won the awards for “Best Reporter” and “Best Weather Forecaster” after being voted on by the organization.
Jared began his career in broadcast journalism by interning in the field, and earning a spot on the nationally syndicated television show Teen Kids News. Later, Jared worked as an intern for Alan Weiss Productions, which is the production company that produces Teen Kids News. His internships also took him to The Long Island Radio Group, and then to News 12 Long Island.
While working at News 12 Long Island, Jared began as an assistant to Elizabeth Hashagen, morning show co-anchor. He also pitched story ideas that made air, and planned daily shoots in the field. His best accomplishment while working for News 12 was when Jared segment produced the week long morning show series “Summer Shape Up,” as part of the “12 Weeks of Summer.” Summer Shape Up featured a different summer workout out each morning. He was responsible for booking guests, coordinating 7 live shots out on the News 12 lawn, and communicating with anchors and producers about graphics, audio, visual shots, and content.
