After twisters touch down in Texas on Tuesday, cleanup begins

Two tornadoes tore through the Dallas-Forth Worth area on Tuesday afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction in its path and residents in a state of fear. The tornadoes destroyed houses and took down power lines, which left a significant amount of the area without power. NYtimes.com reports that the region, where about six million people live, was notified of possible tornadoes in the afternoon.

Snowfall levels this year are nearly half of what they typically are.

Steve Bukolt walked to his business class on Thursday clad in a sweatshirt and jeans – unusual attire for the heart of January. 

The outside temperature was hovering around 41 degrees, and that was, surprisingly, a tad cooler than earlier in the week.

Bukolt, a senior accounting major and Buffalo native, said his walk to class has been pleasant so far this year.

“I live on Ackerman, so the commute has been better than in the past,” he said.

The massive storm that hit the Northeast causes delays and dilemmas as students tried to make their way back to Syracuse.

While Hurricane Irene didn’t affect Central New York as badly as cities on the eastern seaboard, several Syracuse University students who planned on moving in this weekend had a lot of trouble traveling to campus.

The storm touched down in North Carolina on Saturday and slammed into New Jersey and New York today, intimidating authorities into shutting down public transit and throughways in the tri-state area and prompting flight delays nationwide.

Forecasters warn rain, melting snow could lead to high waters.

Just days after Syracuse received a fresh pile of snow, forecasters are predicting another another potentially problematic precipitate -- heavy rain.

According to The Post-Standard, the Syracuse forecast is predicting a quarter to half an inch of rain over the course of today and another three-quarters to one inch tonight. When that rain is added to melting snow, flooding is possible in rivers, low-lying areas, urban areas and other locations with poor-drainage.

Services say there should be flood watch since heavy rain is anticipated in Syracuse area.

The National Weather Service warns of a flood due to heavy rain for Upstate New York, including Syracuse, according to The Post-Standard.

Heavy rains are anticipated to begin tonight. The weather services forcasted one to three inches of rain for Thursday and Friday.

The large amount of rain will warm temperatures. The temperatures will stay in the 40s both on Thursday and Friday.

More than a foot of snow in the past day gives SU students and staffers the day off.

Three words made it official.

“All Classes Cancelled.”

An e-mail from Syracuse University to its students, faculty and staff around 9 a.m. Monday announced the first full school closure since 1993.

“I can’t think of a particular time when there was this much snow all at one time,” SU political science graduate student Heather Pincock said.

After shoveling the front walkway for an hour and a half, Pincock then tackled the challenge of trying to move her car.

National Weather Service announces winter storm warning for Central New York.

A winter storm warning has been issued for most of Central New York including the Syracuse area, according to The Post-Standard

The National Weather Service said this morning that heavy, wet snow will fall by 5 p.m. bringing anywhere from 8 to 12 inches. The temperature will fall from low 30s to 20s.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for most of Central New York including the Syracuse area, according to The Post-Standard. Eight to 12 inches of heavy, wet snow could fall by 5 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

Bad weather bearing down on the Southeast as the Midwest recovers.

Another winter storm is heading into unfamiliar territory, according to CNN. The storm comes less than a week after record-setting snow coated the Midwest.

A foot of snow is on the ground in Oklahoma and the National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings throughout portions of nine states from Texas to Alabama.
