Orange

A staple of the Syracuse skyline for nearly 30 years, the Dome has housed a wide range of memorable moments.

It is a landmark on the Syracuse University campus that has been around for nearly 30 years.  The Carrier Dome opened Sept. 20, 1980, and has been a staple on the Syracuse hill ever since.

The freshman sensation has a coming-out party with a career-high 27 points.

A tired Oakland Golden Grizzlies team was no match for a fast-paced Orange team led by a career performance from freshman Brandon Triche.

Tuesday night’s matchup with the Rochester, Michigan-based Grizzlies displayed SU’s ability to take advantage of a drained and less talented team.  It was also a coming out party for Triche, who scored a season and career-high 27 points.

Powered by a 14-4 run to open the second half and strong frontcourt play, the Orange win 85-72.

It was not vintage Syracuse. The game was not clean. The team was not crisp.

The traits of Wes Johnson elevate the Orange in a 101-55 smothering of visiting Maine Saturday night in the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse superstar forward Wes Johnson does everything on the basketball court.

With recruits on the sideline and the parents in the stands for Senior Day, Syracuse dominated No. 25 Rutgers, 31-13.

The state of Syracuse football, and the status of the health care system in the United States, has run a similar path.

Hype and hope surrounded the hiring of Marrone (an alum and successful NFL coordinator), as well as the election of President Barack Obama (a community leader with pointed ideas and a lasting voice). Today, the products of both men move forward toward its goal after adversity, using solid footing and some timely motivation to invigorate the masses once more.

Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone preaches preparation, expecting each Orange player to be ready to perform at all times.  Saturday afternoon against Akron, Marrone found out if his players were listening.

A near capacity crowd turned out to watch the kickoff of the Doug Marrone era.

Doug Marrone's tenure as Syracuse University head football coach began Saturday against Minnesota, and the Carrier Dome was nearly packed with a reported crowd of 48,614.

After the recent disappointing seasons, fans were treated to a solid effort by SU, which led Minnesota 20-17 for most of the second half. Late in the fourth quarter Minnesota tied the game at 20, and ultimately won 23-20 in overtime.

Preview column about Syracuse football debuts with season-opener tidbits.

You can maul us, if we mention Greg…

This is a Syracuse QB-free sports blog.

(Unless the SU player wore #5).  I won’t name drop classmates here, except Will Dugan.  All references to the player will be "the Duece."

SU's female basketball fans aren't all that different from the boys.

Kristin Petrella is a huge Orange fan. She might not paint her body blue and orange or get belligerently drunk before the game with a group of sports-crazed buddies, but she makes sure to support Syracuse University's men's basketball team in her own way.

Petrella was a cheerleader in high school. She attributes her over-abundance of school spirit to her years on the squad.
