THE General Body, a coalition of student groups at Syracuse University, decided to end their sit-in at Crouse Hinds Hall on Nov. 20 after 18 days -- that's 432 hours or 25, 920 minutes spent in the lobby of the administration building, advocating for campus changes in areas ranging from disability to sexual assault.
However, ending the sit-in is not a sign of defeat for the group, members say. The sit-in served its purpose in raising campus awareness.
THE General Body is giving the administration time to look over the demands and grievances. They will continue to work toward their demands regarding major grievances such as the closing of the Advocacy Center and the defunding of the Posse program.
The group will continue taking more action in the future, members said, and another sit-in remains an option if needed to meet their demands.
THE General Body will schedule an open meeting in spring 2015, reflecting the statement on its website: “There is still a lot of work to be done!”
