Comfy couches are a home away from home

Not too hard, not too soft — couches around campus are just right for students looking to sleep or study.

College students have an uncanny ability to suss out the best spots around campus that will cater to their diverse needs — whether it be studying, snoozing, slacking — or all three.

And while college students might seem content with any old couch, many will attest to having a favorite couch on campus.

It certainly helps that the SU campus offers a great selection of couches to choose from, or to fall back on when a favorite couch is occupied. The two most popular destinations are Bird Library and the Panasci Lounge in Schine Student Center.

Students like these couches for specific reasons — it’s comfortable, or not too comfortable, or its well-designed.

Ambience is a plus, too. Students who gather in Bird Library feed off the studious energy — or lack thereof — from other couch occupants.

Some students have even made the couches a second home, especially in places far from campus like the Warehouse downtown.

“I’ve seen people bring sleeping bags here,” said Ryan Pierson, an industrial design student.

Most students seen lounging in Panasci are plugged in to their laptops, feet up on ottomans. Panasci couches are usually fully occupied during the day, so students who arrive during this time will likely be relegated to the tables. The couches here allow anything from a full lie-down to a casual slouch. It’s no wonder everyone is so smitten with them.
