Last week, Victoria's Secret unveiled its new "Gorgeous" brassiere and fragrance collection, which has since been aggressively promoted on TV and in my email account. In the last month, I've received 19 emails from Victoria's Secret.

Check out more than 50 video stories about Central New York originals.

Throughout a week in July and August, student journalists in a news writing and reporting class from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications branched out across the city of Syracuse and its surrounding areas in search of subjects whose roots are connected to the Central New York area.

The 57 video stories captured a range of characters, from those that are a part of multigenerational businesses to individuals just starting to establish a base in the area.

Check out 75 video and photo stories throughout the Salt City as they unfold one summer morning.

On Tuesday, Aug. 3, student journalists in a news writing and reporting class from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications fanned out across the five regions of Syracuse, listening to, watching and reporting on the stories surrounding them.

The 75 video and photo stories captured second-by-second that morning share a slice of Syracuse that's been dubbed, "Secs in the City."

Old World opera meets new media

Syracuse Opera calls on College of Visual and Performing Arts students to create abstract video backdrops for 'The Flying Dutchman.'

Richard Wagner is considered a god among titans by opera aficionados.

His operas are grand opuses, largely inspired by northern European mythology and legend. Because Wagner operas call for such elaborate sets, staging one is an ambitious endeavor for any company — even one the size of the Metropolitan Opera. Syracuse Opera — the only year-round professional opera company serving upstate New York — has been a successful institution since its first season in 1974, but staging a Wagner opera remains a challenge.

Why stories need to be told and where to find good ones.

There's an African proverb that goes, "It takes a whole village to raise a child" and for one night the Hendricks Chapel became that village.  

Last night, instead of coming home to a nice, warm meal, I squeezed myself in a pew on the balcony of Hendricks Chapel to see Muhammad Yunus talk.  In the course of two hours, he didn't say anything radically different from what I had read of his work, but nevertheless his words re-infected me--and the rest of the audience as well.

Halftime Snack breaks down the Orange's final score against Akron.

With a 21-14 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, the Orange took advantage of the 40-pound average advantage on the offensive line. A 53-yard run by senior running back Delone Carter gave the Orange second-and-goal from the 4-yard line. Syracuse simplified its attack, putting quarterback Greg Paulus under center (two shotgun snaps earlier in the day had gone awry) while bringing in both tight ends into the single-back formation.

Carter got the hand off, ran behind big right tackle Jonathan Muldrum into the end zone for his third rushing touchdown of the game.
