After a long battle with pancreatic cancer, Steve Jobs dies at the age of 56

Steve Jobs was a master visionary and a fearless innovator who will forever be mentioned in the same breath as Edison and Einstein, a man that will be remembered as the guy who "put a dent in the universe."

In August, Jobs stepped down as the CEO of Apple, Inc. due to health issues stemming from his long battle with pancreatic cancer. Yesterday, at age 56, Jobs died from those same complications.

Facebook gives Pages similar face-lift it gave profiles last year.

Anyone who logged onto their favorite Facebook page in the last few days may have noticed it looks a little different. A report from Mashables further explores the new changes made to make Facebook Pages to look more like Facebook Profiles.

“We strongly believe you should have consistent experiences when possible,” said Rohit Dhawan, lead product manager for Facebook Pages, to Mashables.

Although the world of print is shifting to digital publications, many college students still prefer paper textbooks.

Although many college students have smartphones, browse the Internet, and chat with their friends and family through Web cams, they still haul around heavy, old-fashioned textbooks.  According to the New York Times, 1,500 college bookstores, along with internet retailers such as Amazon and Textbooks.com, are offering both new and used textbook rentals for this fall.

Gates Foundation to spend $20 million towards postsecondary online courses for low-income young people.

The education gap facing the nation’s work force has shown that most new jobs will require more than a high school education. However, less than half of Americans under the age of 30 have a postsecondary degree. Recent state budget cuts, education experts agree, will make closing that gap very difficult, according to a New York Times report.

As Chile begins to recover from the fifth strongest earthquake in 100 years, two more aftershocks shook parts of the country Friday morning. 

The aftershocks came hours before U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was to meet with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and her successor. 

 The first aftershock shook the Bio Bio region with a magnitude of 6.0 and another aftershock struck the area near Concepcion around 8:47 with a magnitude of 6.6.
