Republican nominee Herman Cain’s tax plan, known as 9-9-9, took center stage at the Republican debate Tuesday night. Cain's new taxation idea - paired with his knowledge and experience in business, as former CEO of Godfather's Pizza - is winning him the support of Americans. Cain hopes because of the plan's simplicity, Americans will understand and support the tax code.

After a budget meeting held Monday night, Clay residents learned that they may have to pay more in taxes this year.

On Monday night Clay residents learned that they may have to pay more in taxes this year if the new budget is passed, according to 9WSYR.com. The Town of Clay is facing a ten percent tax increase.

The Town of Clay is working with a $13 million budget. Town Supervisor Damian Ulatowski says a small portion of what Clay residents pay in taxes actually goes to the town government.

Syracuse City Assessor John Gamage has put three closed Catholic churches on this year's tax roll for the first time. Gamage says since the churchs are no longer being used as places for worship, they can be taxed. The churches include St. Peter, St. Andrew the Apostle and St. Stephen.

President Obama plans to discuss the strategy in Afghanistan with top congressional officials Tuesday, according to a report on CNN.com.  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader John Boehner and the heads of Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees will attend the meeting with Obama.
