Syracuse Police Captain Richard P. Walsh retiring after 41 years with department.

SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police Captain Richard P. Walsh announced his plans to retire after the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The news comes after Walsh was chosen as grand marshal of the parade, according to The Post-Standard.

Walsh has been head of the Criminal Investigations Division of the department for 23 years. He joined the police department on May 6, 1970 and has been involved with the St. Patrick's Day parade since it was revived in 1982.

Department creates Facebook page, offers email and text message updates.

The Syracuse Police Department created its own Facebook page, according to The Post-Standard. The department will also use email alerts and text messaging to share news with the public. Residents can text or email the police department at intel@syracusepolice.org with anonymous tips or information. They can also use their smart phones to receive current news and the status of an investigation.

Police arrest a Syracuse teen in connection with the murder of Tavorn Hunter.

Authorities made their second arrest in the murder of 27-year-old Tavorn Hunter on Syracuse’s Southside on Oct. 24. Shakeem J. Moore, 17, was arrested Thursday night and charged with second-degree murder.

The suspect accused of committing the August holding up Omanil's Lemonade Heaven is being arraigned in Onondaga County Court today.

The man suspected of being the gunman that robbed three customers at Omanil’s Lemonade Heaven is being arraigned in Onondaga County Court this morning. The man in question is faced with single counts of first-and second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and three counts of first-degree robbery, according to The Post-Standard

Mark Hennessey was stabbed after he answered the door of his North Alvord Street apartment Wednesday evening, according to The Post-Standard.

It was just another Monday on Euclid Avenue in Syracuse on April 19. Syracuse University students walked to and from class — some dragging their legs — while others quickly darted between slow walkers to avoid being late.

Mayfest is back this year with a few changes but students must mind their manners.

Spring’s biggest event is back, but will it be the same? Mayfest, typically a lively outside block party stretching across multiple streets, has a new home.

 Walnut Park will be the central location for the day’s festivities. The park will be split into three sections: A free beer trailer for 21 and up, a concert stage offering live performances, and a free food station.

 But the event isn’t a free-for-all.

Schools, roads, state offices and flights have all been shut down because of the snow storm sweeping the south. Texas has already been hit with more than a foot of snow, its most since 1964. In the Dallas area there were nearly 200 car accidents and 175,000 houses without power. Some of these areas haven't seen snow in over a decade.
