Flossie Turner Lewis started earning a living when she was just two years old. Dressed up in a satin evening gown, an up-do hairstyle and lots of makeup, she earned a spot singing and performing in carnival and minstrel shows with her family. She was dubbed "Little Hot Mama."

CNY Jazz Central Opens Season with a Broadway Benefit

CNY Jazz Central and Rarely Done Productions are teaming up to raise money for the Jazz Central facilities.

CNY Jazz Central is celebrating its 14th season in operation with a “Broadway Cabaret” season opener planned for this Sunday, October 4. The event is a fundraiser to maintain the Jazz Central facility, which has been home to the foundation for four years.

On an evening when the audience didn't know if they would get a lecture or a concert, soul sensation John Legend took the stage with a soulful cover of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song."


Almost 1,400 students attended Legend’s performance Wednesday night in Goldstein Auditorium. The evening included questions and answers from the audience, a few of Legend's hits, and an inspirational speech.

Jonathan Shew completes his career at SU's final home basketball game

Jonathan Shew is no stranger to the pressures of the stage. Aside from his numerous performances as a music industry major at Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts, and his participation in SU's only all-male a capella group, Orange Appeal, he grew up with music and performance in his blood. Originally from New York City, both of Shew's parents are Broadway performers.
