Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark not afraid of lending his constituents a helping hand, can take a sigh of relief after he ran into a burning building and helped save his neighbor.

Late Thursday night, Booker was walking back to his home with two members of his security detail when he spotted a fire on the second floor of his neighbor's building.

 The death toll from a 6.3 magnitude earthquake centered just outside of Christchurch, New Zealand, rose to 75, BBC News reports. Christchurch is the largest city on the southern island of New Zealand.

Chilean President is ready for the mine rescue

The rescue is expected to take place Wednesday.

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera  spoke in Quito, Ecuador, and said he is ready for the rescue of the 33 miners which have been trapped for over months.  Rescue crews will begin Wednesday or perhaps even earlier to pull the men to safety, officials said.

 The president would like the miners to not just see the sunlight but embrace with their family, according to CNN.

The rescuers in Chile have only 89 meters to go for the "Plan B" drill to break through the trapped chamber.

Rescuers in Chile are expected to break through the chamber where 33 miners are trapped by Saturday, according to CNN.

Chilean Mines Minister Laurence Golborne said today that the miners could be extracted from the collapsed San Jose mine anywhere between two to 10 days after the breakthrough.

The four day search for a missing Florida girl is over is finally over.

According to CNN, the group effort to find 11 year-old Nadia Bloom ended after a member of her search party found her. Chief Kevin P. Brunelle of the Winter Springs Police Department says James King, a member of her church, found her shoeless and covered in insect bites in a forest near Lake Jesup.

Although members of the Onondaga County Legislature have indicated that the new tax revenue sharing plan will give less to villages and towns, the Village of Tully unveiled a new budget plan today that will cut taxes by six percent.


According to 9WSYR.com, Village Mayor Beth Greenwood says village board members worked to make sure they were absolutely as efficient as possible in this year's budget.
