Officials say the books inadvertently given to troops for burning, not out of disrespect towards the religion

"Die, die, foreigners!" shouted the demonstrators, as they watched their holy books burning in a garbage pile on an U.S. army base. Some shot into the air with their rifles, others threw rocks at the gate of the base, as they watched their holy books ablaze.

The top commander of American and NATO forces in Afghanistan, U.S. Gen. John Allen, says that the books were inadvertently given to troops for the burning. The religious books were burned in a pit, along with other books that detainees used during their incarceration at the base.

A rebel group of Amish in Bergholz, Ohio are being accused of violent attacks on fellow Amish communities, involving holding individuals down and cutting their hair or beards.

Fights between Muslim, Christians kill 11 people, wound more than 90.

The clashes between Muslim and Christians, which have gone overnight on Tuesday, killed 11 people, according to The New York Times. Among 11 victims, six were Christians, and five were Muslims.

Designer Christian Dior plans to fire designer John Galliano after comments about Hitler.

According to CNN, French designer Christian Dior began proceedings to terminate designer John Galliano after Galliano was allegedly filmed praising Adolf Hitler. The comments were reportedly made in a Paris cafe last year.

Galliano said "I love Hitler" in the video and before the video was released, Dior had already suspended Galliano for other anti-Semitic remarks.

Self-proclaimed prophet kidnapped a girl and sexually abused her.

A Utah man kidnapped a girl and sexually abused her for nearly a year, according to CNN.  Brian David Mitchell, 57, is on trial for abducting Elizabeth Smart, then 14.  Mitchell justified himself using religion, stating to Smart that God had told him to kidnap and rape her.  He also claimed God told him to abduct her and make her his wife.

Muslims, Hindus, and local sect each get part of land.

A high court in New Dehli ruled to split a disputed holy site in three parts.  Muslims, Hindus, and a local religious sect were each deemed to be "joint title holders of the property," according to one of the judges on the court.  Each religion will get a portion of the land at Ayodhya, which has been a scene of religious tension and violence for over 400 years, according to CNN.

America is a nation of religions. But, how much do Americans really know about them? Not a lot.

The Independent Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life conducted a survey on Americans’ religious knowledge. However, not many of them could answer questions, even of their own religion correctly.

Researchers called 3,400 Americans and asked each person 32 questions about different kinds of religion, mostly in the format of multiple choices. Averagely, people were only able to answer half out of all the questions right.

And, who knows the most?

The Rev. Tiffany Steinwert, the first female dean of Hendricks Chapel, is laying the groundwork for the future of SU institution.

In its 80-year history, Hendricks Chapel has never had a female dean. Until now.

Rev. Tiffany Steinwert was appointed in March, making her the sixth Hendricks dean in Syracuse University's history.

Maxwell hosts multicultural fair.

The International Relations Student Association hosted the "Cultures in Collaboration" Multicultural Fair at Maxwell on Thursday.  The fair became a fusion of food, song and dance as more than 20 campus and community groups set up booths. These featured the Haitian Student Association, Women Transcending Boundaries and the American Red Cross.
