Church Bans Interracial Couples

A Baptist church in Kentucky voted to pass resolution banning interracial couples from entering the church community

The Gulnare Free Will Church in Pike County, Kentucky, voted this Sunday to pass a resolution that would no longer allow interracial couples to be a part of the congregation. The ban was passed by a 9-6 vote. The vote was taken after a service, where 35-40 people attended, but many declined to vote, reported CBS News. According to the New York Daily News, the resolution stated that the tiny, all-white church "does not condone interracial marriage."

Scott Sanders, writer and director of the film Black Dynamite, came to Syracuse University on Tuesday to participate in a Conversation on Race and Entertainment Media with television, radio and film professor Richard Dubin. The free-flowing discussion, held in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse III, focused on the changes in the entertainment industry over the past two decades and on Sanders’s thoughts on opportunities for African-Americans in film.
