Syracuse softball had its home opener during the first warm spell of the spring, but Notre Dame spoiled the party handing the Orange back-to-back defeats Sunday.

Syracuse’s home opener was delayed a day due to travel problems by visiting Notre Dame. Following back-to-back losses at the hands of the Irish, the Orange are probably wishing it had been delayed a little longer.

On what started out as a gorgeous day Syracuse, the weather turned, becoming as bad as the play of the Orange. The two losses extended SU’s (24-10, 3-5) Big East losing streak to five games, while Notre Dame remained undefeated in conference play.

Orange players, fans are frustrated in 14-5 victory as the winless Friars try to kill as much clock possible.

Providence College visited the Orange for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome. The Friars brought a 15-game losing streak that dates back to April 15, 2009 to challenge the nation’s top-ranked team.

Providence’s game plan became obvious to everybody present by the middle of the first quarter: just don’t get blown out. Despite Providence’s best efforts, Syracuse got its offense on track to beat the Friars 14-5.

With a number one ranking on the line, Syracuse gets its eighth straight win behind a career performance from Chris Daniello and a strong effort from a stingy defense.

After a thrilling last second win against CNY rival Cornell University on Tuesday night, the Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse Team (10-1, 3-0) looked to stay on track as they got into the meat of the Big East schedule against Rutgers University (5-6, 1-2) on Sunday night at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.

It was an offensive battle against the Friars on Tuesday night, but the Orange defense came out on top.

Led by Rick Jackson and Andy Rautins in a rallying, offensive shootout against Providence on Tuesday night, the No. 4 Syracuse Orange shut it down in a 99-85 win. Both players scored 28-points, a season-high for Rautins and a new career-high for Jackson.

The Orange recovered from an eight-point deficit to beat the feisty Friars and reach their highest point total in the Big East this season. The win also earned them a double-bye into the quarterfinals of the upcoming Big East tournament.

Kris Joseph and Arinze Onuaku lead No. 3 Syracuse to a 22-1 record and the team's best start ever with an 85-68 win over Providence.

Prized Syracuse forward Wesley Johnson went down hard to the floor eight minutes into the first half, but the story of the night was reserved for the flight of a sophomore standout and senior staple.

Kris Joseph scored a career-high 23 points and Arinze Onuaku added a season-best 20 as the Orange squashed the Providence Friars 85-68 to improve to a school-best 22-1 record.

“A.O. was the most active he’s been all year,” SU Coach Jim Boeheim said. “He hasn’t been having the kind of year we need from him."
