Sources confirmed the death of a student in DellPlain Hall Friday afternoon.

Freshman Courtenay Nash was found dead on the first floor of DellPlain Hall at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Undeclared freshman Andrew Schaeffer, who lives in Ernie Davis Hall right across the courtyard from the entrance of DellPlain Hall, spoke about the incident.

"There's a big window next to my room, I could see everything." he said. "I saw an ambulance, paramedics and cop cars come and I thought maybe someone died, maybe someone passed out."

On the scene, Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan stressed the university is safe, and this was not a crime.

Officials intervene during latest Occupy protest

Hundreds of police officers dressed in riot gear approached Occupy Portland protesters Sunday in order to break up demonstrations.  Protesters set up camps in the city parks in relation to the Occupy Wall Street movements to protest economic inequality.

Officials are searching for 10-month-old Lisa Irwin, who was last seen on Monday night

Early Tuesday morning, Kansas City, MO officials announced Lisa Irwin had been abducted from her home. Her father returned from work and found her crib empty. The 10-month-old baby girl was last seen by her mother around 10:30 p.m. on Monday.

Three Syracuse residents face charges after a traffic stop in Volney.

Late Tuesday night, Carolyn V. LaBrake, 25, of 3119 Grant Blvd., Syracuse, was pulled over for having a loud muffler, according to the Oswego County Sheriff's Office. She was cited with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and loud muffler and improper license, violations. But that's not all. A hypodermic needle was found on LaBrake, according to deputites, and she was then charged with possession of a hypodermic needle, which is a misdemeanor.

Dangerous drivers who take backroads to avoid police officers might not be "safe" anymore, according to The Post-Standard

The Onondaga County Traffic Safety Advisory Board announced a campaign that strictly enforces safe driving laws -- and not just on roads police have normally concentrated on.

Court says former Syracuse Police officer won’t be sent to prison.

SYRACUSE, NY -- A state appeals court ruled this morning that former Syracuse Police Officer Dereck Backus won’t be going to state prison for injuring two teens in a DWI crash back in 2006, according to The Post-Standard.

Backus' sentence was also reduced to the eight months he has already served in the Onondaga County Correctional Facility in Jamesville.

He was caught after fleeing the building, according to police.

Police say a man has been charged following a break-in at McKinley-Brighton School Monday morning. An officer responding to a burglary alarm at about 12:51 a.m. arrived at the school and saw a window open, and then called for backup.

A police car was part of a three-car wreck at Manlius Center Road and Basile Rowe.

An East Syracuse police officer and two others were taken to hospitals following a three-car crash at Manlius Center Road and Basile Rowe, DeWitt police said. 

The Post-Standard says that two SUVs and an East Syracuse police car were involved in the crash, which happened about 10:50 a.m., according to DeWitt police Sgt. John Anton. The East Syracuse Police have asked Dewitt police to investigate the crash, Anton said.

A DeWitt officer suffered minor injuries in a crash on the southbound off ramp on Interstate 481.

A DeWitt officer was investigating a van-deer crash on Interstate 481 this morning when a Mattydale driver crashed into his patrol car, DeWitt police said.

According to The Post-Standard, Officer Jeffrey MacDonald, 45, was in his patrol car about 8:30 am on the southbound off ramp on I-481 when the crash occurred. Police said Erin Gustke, 19, was southbound on the highway when she lost control of her car on the wet pavement.

One deputy was suspended without pay, and the other forced to resign.

Two Onondaga Sheriff's deputies have been reprimanded in recent weeks, due to unrelated allegations of misconduct.

The Post-Standard reports that deputy Anthony Gorgoni, in his 18th year as a deputy, was suspended without pay three weeks ago for violating the sheriff’s use-of-force policy according to Sheriff Kevin Walsh,.
