Discovery president expects OWN to be ‘A very big business.’

Discovery Communications announced Friday it will be investing $50 million in the Oprah Winfrey Network, according to The Hollywood Reporter. President and CEO David Zaslav said Discovery is increasing funding to help jumpstart the network. A move he said will lead to longer-term profitability and better content.

The eruption of the Icelandic volcano strengthened this afternoon.  After slowing down for the past few days, a new cloud of ash is now heading towards the United Kingdom.  This will once again threaten European air travel.  According to CNN.com, the volcano, Eyjafjallajokull, erupted a new cloud of ash 15,000 feet in the air.  This dashed the hopes of the travelers stranded on either side of the Atlantic.

Protestors gathered at Sen. David Valesky’s Syracuse office Thursday afternoon to oppose cutbacks in education according to Syracuse.com.

Valesky voted for a Senate budget proposal two weeks ago that included a $1.4 billion cut to education according to protest organizer, Tanika Jones-Cole. The group, Alliance for Quality Education said the cuts threaten 15,000 teaching positions in New York.
