Cory Booker rescues neighbor trapped in a burning building.

Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark not afraid of lending his constituents a helping hand, can take a sigh of relief after he ran into a burning building and helped save his neighbor.

Late Thursday night, Booker was walking back to his home with two members of his security detail when he spotted a fire on the second floor of his neighbor's building.

Record rainfall for Syracuse and the surrounding areas left many homes flooded and roadways closed Thursday night after a tropical storm blew through Central New York according to The Post-Standard.

Cortland county was hit the hardest getting 6.51 inches with streams and rivers exceeding flood levels.

Rahm Emanuel is set to visit Chicago neighborhoods to gauge voter reaction to a "possible" run for mayor.

Rahm Emanuel is expected to officially resign his position as White House Chief of Staff on Friday. He will then travel to Chicago to speak with voters about a potential run for mayor, according to National Public Radio.

Rahm Emanuel will likely make an announcement about his resignation as chief of staff on Friday.  Three Democrats who are close to Emanuel, told CNN that Emanuel is almost certain he will run for Chicago mayor this year.

As Stephanie Miner takes office, community leaders expect her to do more to address the environment and development.

For a better and greener Syracuse, people expect the new mayor Stephanie Miner to make important decisions in projects related to sustainability and the environment during her term.

“I think the character of her leadership will be very different than the past few mayors,” said Deb Warner, vice president for public policy and government relations in Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce.

The first-ever woman mayor collects 50 percent of the vote to top two competitors.

For Syracuse mayor-elect Stephanie Miner, Tuesday night was one dreams are made of.

"To all of you who convince girls to believe in themselves and believe in their dreams, I want to tell you that you have somebody who has profound thanks for that,”  Miner told a crowd of of supporters in her victory speech.

Miner won 50 percent of the vote, becoming the first woman mayor of the city.

Syracuse mayoral candidate Steve Kimatian pitched a plan for Wi-Fi city.

Syracuse Republican mayoral candidate Steve Kimatian pitched a plan Thursday to install Wi-Fi antennae throughout the city.
The municipal wireless broadband could be partially funded through federal grants and it would put Syracuse at the forefront of technology, Kimatian said.
Depending on how much of the program can be funded, the service would be offered free or at a monthly charge of less than half the cost of other Internet services.
