Focus on off-field troubles at football media day

When it comes to the 2011 football season, Syracuse University head coach Doug Marrone isn’t mincing words about what he expects from his team.

Sales faces drug charges

SU football wide receiver Marcus Sales faces drug charges after police arrested him and his brother Friday.

With only 32 days until Syracuse's season opener against Wake Forest, the status of one of SU's top offensive weapons became very hazy Friday night. Police arrested Marcus Sales, one of three senior wideouts on the team, along with his brother on drug charges around 9:45 pm, according to Syracuse.com and police reports.

Syracuse outlasts Kansas State to win a thrilling inaugural Pinstripe Bowl 36-34 at Yankee Stadium.

With resilience, a few trick plays, and one of the best running backs in program history, the Orange won its first bowl game since 2001. At the end of it all, Doug Marrone nearly broke down in tears on the sidelines at Yankee Stadium.

“When you haven’t gone to a bowl game since 2004 and had a winning season since 2001, the first step is to create that as a goal,” Marrone said. “We needed to come out with a good performance so we could carry ourselves over for the challenge we face in the future.”

Bringing Syracuse its first bowl victory in almost a decade is a good start.

Media Day kicks off 2010 football season

The Orange gets a boost from news that running back Delone Carter is returning this fall.

Head football coach Doug Marrone delivered more than just a blueprint of the upcoming season Monday during Syracuse’s annual media day.

 “I recently just learned that Delone Carter will be reinstated back into school,” Marrone said. “We expect him to be traveling tomorrow (Tuesday) and do not know exactly what time he will arrive.”

As long as SU’s leading rusher arrives before the Sept. 4 season opener vs. Akron, teammates and Orange fans should be happy to see the running back on the field.
