As winter storms take Syracuse in early spring, this year's winter is moving up on the charts to become the snowiest in history.

 In the winter of 1992-1993, 192.1 inches of snow were recorded making it the snowiest winter in Syracuse -- only 14.4 inches more than this year, according to The Post-Standard.

County Executive Joanie Mahoney announces plans for 50 new Green projects.

According to The Post-Standard, County Executive Joanie Mahoney will announce today a plan to build one of the largest plant-covered roofs in the Northeast. The plan is to build a $1 million, 66,000 square foot (around 1.5 acres) green roof on top of the Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center.

The county says the green roof would soak up 1 million gallons of rain that would normally be lost in the sewer systems and contribute to sewage overflows in Onondaga Lake.

Prisoner broke sprinkler, causing flood.

A man from Fulton faces more jail time after he caused a flood in the Oswego County Jail, The Post-Standard reports.

Donald Adams, 24, of 354 E. Broadway, Fulton has been in jail since December 12 and was set to be released in May. He used a plastic cup to cause a flood that damaged property in the jail, Oswego County Deputies report.

Department of aviation recommends arriving extra early.

SYRACUSE, NY -- Many schools across Onondaga County will be closed next week for February break and families all over the region are already heading to warmer vacation destinations, according to The Post-Standard.. 

Officials are urging travelers to get to the airport early and with time to spare to make sure they do not miss their flights.

Chelsea Kuss faces charges over crash that killed Liverpool High School senior.

The driver in a car crash that killed Liverpool High School senior Victoria Deverso, 17, last May is set to appear in Madison County Court today, The Post-Standard reports.

Chelsea Kuss, 18, of 127 Hamden Drive, Lyncourt was charged in September with aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated for her part in the May 24 crash in Sullivan.

Free agent Werth signs with the Washington Nationals, the Syracuse Chiefs Major League affiliate.

In a move that came as a shock to many in the baseball world, free agent outfielder Jayson Werth signed a seven-year, $126 million contract with the Washington Nationals, according to ESPN

Werth moves within the NL East division from the Philadelphia Phillies, where he helped the team win the 2008 World Series and four straight NL East titles. Last year he had an NL-high 46 doubles, 27 homers and 85 RBIs. 

The Nationals went 69-93 last year and have not had a winning record since 2003.

Unplowed streets and a snowy forecast forced Syracuse City School District Superintendent Daniel Lowengard to close schools Monday.

While most people were sleeping soundly at 4:30 a.m. Monday, Syracuse City School District superintendent Daniel Lowengard and district Transportation Director Patricia Bailey were wide awake and making a tough decision: whether or not to close Syracuse city schools. Eventually though, unplowed side streets and a forecast that shows more snow forced Lowengard to officially close schools Monday, according to The Post-Standard.

Parents ask for answers, information, on fifth anniversary of disappearance

Five years after their son disappeared, Lorraine and Larry Stackhouse have not stopped searching for answers.  Larry Stackhouse Jr. went missing December 2, 2005 without a trace, according to WSYR.

Syracuse police are still investigating the case on a regular basis, but have yet to find a sign of Larry Jr.

An Auburn woman was fired for leaving derogatory comments about her job and co-workers on Facebook.

"Mary" worked at a call-center in Auburn, and like many people was frustrated with her job and co-workers, according to WSYR. Instead of keeping quiet about her unhappiness though, Mary expressed it on the social networking website Facebook

That decision would ultimately cause her unemployment.

Ticket for littering least of man's concerns

40-year-old Melvin Franklin, 40, of 1306 Park St threw a bottle out the window of his car at 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.  Police immediately pulled Franklin over to give him a ticket for littering, according to The Post-Standard.
