The No. 1 ranked Orange split a pair of exhibition games Saturday, losing to Hofstra 6-5 and beating Le Moyne 10-5.

The last time Syracuse played in the Carrier Dome, Army used physicality and double overtime to pull a stunning upset. After an all-to-long offseason, the Orange players were ready and eager to begin avenging the loss.

“It was nice to be back in here and wash away the bad memories,” SU goalie John Galloway said. “It’s out of the memory bank. Now it’s time to focus on 2011.”

Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas does not have to serve jail time for a felony gun charge, says ESPN.com. Judge Robert E. Morin says Arenas has to serve 30 days in a halfway house and register as a gun offender.

He was also sentenced to two years of probation, he must do 400 hours of community service, and he has to give $5,000 to victims of the violent crimes fund.

General Stanley McChrystal apologized to Afghan president Hamid Karzai Monday for the NATO airstrike that killed 27 civilians and left 14 others wounded. The airstike occurred Sunday in the central Daikondi Providence of Afghanistan.  

The Afghan cabinet called the strike "unjustifiable," and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) ordered an immediate investigation of the incident. According to the Afghan government and ISAF, ground forces found women and children among the casualties.

The Orange begin their hunt for a third national championship in a row with two exhibition games against LeMoyne College and Hofstra University Sunday at the Dome.

Despite losing senior leaders Kenny Nims, Dan Hardy, and Matt Abbott, the Orange begin the 2010 season with very high expectations. Syracuse is the pre-season No. 1 ranked team in the nation and the consensus pick to win this year’s NCAA tournament. The Orange edged out Duke to claim the top spot in both the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) preseason coaches poll and the NIKE/Inside Lacrosse preseason media rankings.

Delone Carter ripped of a career-best 58-yard run to start the game. And there’s not much to say after that. Syracuse lost to first-place Pittsburgh, 37-10, Saturday afternoon at sunny Heinz Field.

Sometimes, less is not more. With fewer players, a limited playbook and no roof over their heads, Syracuse football had little to fight with against the Panthers Saturday afternoon.
