Bernie Fine has signed on for his first job since being fired by Syracuse University last year.

Maccabi "Bazan" Haifa, more commonly known as Maccabi Haifa, has hired former SU men's assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine as a consultant.

Fine's contract was terminated late last year amid sexual assault allegations leveled by Bobby Davis and Mike Lang. According to ESPN, Haifa is ownned by Florida-based businessman Jeffrey Rosen. The club announced that he will advise the team on personnel decisions regarding both players and coaches. Fine's official title is basketball consultant.

Nearly half the team's squad is American or has roots in the United States.

U.S. security officials are concerned about a potential war of terror between Israel and Iran, and the affects on other countries. ABC News reported that Israeli officials said, "that the level of personal security on high-ranking Embassy officials as well as other, lower profile officials in the U.S. is at its highest in at least five years."

Country's admission could cost the organization millions

Palestine became the newest member of UNESCO on Monday in a move that now threatens a significant portion of its funding.  Palestine was admitted in a vote, which required a two-thirds approval.  The final voting stood at 107 to 14, with 52 abstentions.

Group of 477 to be released on Tuesday in exchange for Israeli soldier

Israel has released the names of first group of Palestinian prisoners set to be released in exchange for a captured Israeli soldier.  The list of 477 names, released by Israel on Sunday, contains several high profile names.  Among the list of prisoners being released are founders of Hamas’s armed wing and militants who have killed Israeli soldiers and civilians.

The country was accepted into UNESCO despite opposition from the United States and several European countries

Palestine won a bid into UNESCO Wednesday, despite the opposition of several other countries including the United States. If it gains full membership, this will be a big step in toward a place in the United Nations.

US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warns the country of becoming too isolated

Israel is becoming increasingly isolated in the Middle East, United States Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Sunday. 

He added that Israeli leaders need to restart negotiations with Palestinians while also restoring broken relations with both Egypt and Turkey.

Panetta’s statements came as he was traveling to Israel for the first time as the Defense Secretary.

Almost 30 people are wounded.

An explosion shook a busy street in Jerusalem on Wednesday wounding almost 30 people, according to CNN.

The explosion occured in a crowded area of the city, packed with civilians and two buses. It was the first bombing of its kind in Jerusalem since 2004.

Egypt has agreed to allow two Iranian warships to cross through the Suez Canal despite Israeli opposition.

According to CNN.com, Egypt's new military regime has agreed to allow the passage of two Iranian warships through the Suez Canal.

The warships, are expected to be the first to sail through the Suez Canal since 1979.

The Suez Canal is an internal body of water, which Egypt has sovereignty over. Egypt, however, is bound by the 1976 Camp David Accords, which guarantees the right to free passage by ships belonging to Israel and all other nations on the basis of the Constantinople Convention of 1888.
