Syracuse University officials confirm the death of Courtenay Nash in DellPlain Hall on Friday afternoon.

Courtenay Nash, an economics freshman, was found dead on the first floor of DellPlain Hall around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Details are not yet available on the cause of death but The Post-Standard reported it "is not believed to be criminal in nature," said Syracuse Police Department spokesman Tom Connellan.

Sources confirmed the death of a student in DellPlain Hall Friday afternoon.

Freshman Courtenay Nash was found dead on the first floor of DellPlain Hall at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Undeclared freshman Andrew Schaeffer, who lives in Ernie Davis Hall right across the courtyard from the entrance of DellPlain Hall, spoke about the incident.

"There's a big window next to my room, I could see everything." he said. "I saw an ambulance, paramedics and cop cars come and I thought maybe someone died, maybe someone passed out."

On the scene, Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan stressed the university is safe, and this was not a crime.

The 14-day death toll rises to six after two NATO troops are fatally shot at a combat outpost

Two American NATO service members were killed Thursday morning in the latest of a series of attacks by Afghan security forces.  The American soldiers were shot and killed at a combat outpost in the Kandahar province of Southern Afghanistan.  Four other Americans were injured during the attack.

Two journalists are dead in the Syrian city of Homs. CNN reports that Marie Colvin, an American foreign correspondent with London’s Sunday Times, and Remi Ochlik, a French war photographer, were killed by shelling on Wednesday.

Joe Frazier, ex-heavyweight champion, dies at 67

Former heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier won many fights in his career, but sadly lost the battle with cancer.  He died at his Philadelphia home on Monday from liver cancer at the age of 67.

Frazier will forever be associated with his taunting competitor Muhammad Ali, as he threw the greatest punch for an epic rivalry in boxing history. Nicknamed, Smokin' Joe, Frazier became a fighter in Philadelphia and a legend in New York.

Sports fans mourn Dan Wheldon, 33, who died during the Las Vegas Indy 300

It was a sad day for not only IndyCar fans, but sports fans all around the world on Sunday. Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner and familiar face in the racing world, Dan Wheldon, died after a 15-car collision at Las Vegas Motor Speedway just 11 laps into the final race of the season. 

Wheldon was rushed to University Medical Center after the crash and the news of his death was delivered by IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard shortly after.

16 year old collapses after making winning-game shot.

According to CNN, 16-year-old Wes Leonard died after he shot the winning basket during a high school basketball game Thursday night. The win gave the team a perfect 20-win record. But shortly after making the final shot and being hoisted onto his teammates' shoulders, the teen collapsed and his heart stopped.

Buildings threaten to collapse as aftershocks hit New Zealand. Rescue teams continue search for missing people.

Christchurch residents are bracing for more aftershocks threatening to topple buildings already weakened by New Zealand’s deadliest earthquake in 80 years.

The city has been jolted by 38 aftershocks since Tuesday’s 6.3-magnitude temblor that killed at least 71 people, according to the Civil Defense Department website.

Rescuers aren't “getting a huge number of positive responses from the buildings where we would expect there to be more people trapped alive,” Prime Minister John Key told reporters in Wellington today.

Karena Bergey receives one-year sentence.

A woman who killed her boyfriend in a 2002 DWI crash was sentenced today to one year in jail for her most recent DWI conviction, according to The Post-Standard.

Karena Bergery, 39, from Ontario, Canada pleaded guilty Jan. 26 to a felony count for a DWI case that happened Nov. 29, 2008, in East Syracuse.

Onondaga County Judge William Walsh sentenced Bergey today to one year in the Onondaga County Correctional Facility in Jamesville.
